Free road traffic datasets by TU Dresden – 800 minutes of drone video for each of the 3 data sets

Brand new #Free and very unique #Datasets containing trajectory data from our #TrafficSurvey have been published by our partner university Technische Universität Dresden!

These include data from one 4-way and two 3-way intersections, and more than 800 minutes of video per data set. They contain trajectories, raw video material, and extensive metadata encompassing 100 variables for each video such as current road surface temperature or road conditions. The datasets are suitable for example suitable for extracting test scenarios to assess #AutomatedDrivingSystems

The authors of the dataset and the report are Maximilian B., Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günther Prokop and Matthias Lehmann from the LKT – Lehrstuhl Kraftfahrzeugtechnik

TrafficSurvey User guide showcase

Is doing traffic surveys hard? It depends on you, how deep you want to dive in, and whether you have the materials and tools to help you do it.

DataFromSky in main Czech national news – TrafficDrone gap time monitoring with Czech Police

DataFromSky was recently featured on the main evening news on the national Česká televize (Czech TV) with its TrafficDrone measuring safe gap times for the Policie České republiky. Watch the news story!
The monitoring for this news entry with the Central Bohemian police was done on a road known to have many accidents. Some drivers with unsafe gap times were stopped and notified of their gap time and educated on the matter. Legislation for gap times is currently not in place in the Czech Republic but might be implemented sometime in the future.
The TrafficDrone is a mobile processing unit for rapid deployment of our FLOW traffic video analytics framework making it suitable for traffic violation enforcement and safety monitoring thanks to recent additions such as section speed, gap times measuring, or traffic event evidence gathering. The impact of intersection type on air pollution

A recent traffic study revealed that altering the geometry of an intersection can reduce total pollutant emissions by over 50%! This is a fantastic finding which we hope will entice more traffic engineers and municipalities to closely evaluate the appropriate designs of their intersections. This is important as this can have a significant impact on the local air pollution and in turn the health of people living there especially if implemented on a larger scale. So, traffic intersection design truly matters, and not just because of the safety or optimal traffic throughput.

We are proud of the research paper “The Role of Intersection Geometry in Urban Air Pollution Management” which found this out using precise trajectory traffic data gathered with DataFromSky. You can learn more about this research by Ammar Šarić and his co-authors here.

We care about this topic very deeply and we are working on a method that would be able to directly estimate traffic emissions using only video analytics from cameras across the city in the MARTEV project which is currently underway. You can learn more about our research.
