Traffic Noise Prediction

🎥📢🚐 High frequency and precise telemetry data about each road user are key attributes for quality traffic research projects. Unique trajectories with data points for each video frame from DataFromSky TrafficSurvey have enabled the creation of a very innovative model for noise prediction. This model used vehicle position, speed, and category data extracted from video using AI in conjunction with the noise data gathered from a set up of 5 microphones. Xue Zhang, Helmut Kühnelt and Wim De Roeck have carried out this research with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH and KU Leuven.

💡 The result of the study was the creation of a futuristic noise level prediction model that can be used by cities to estimate current noise. It can also be used in conjunction with traffic modeling to estimate potential noise levels for infrastructure development projects. The noise prediction is calculated based on the nearby passing cars, their distances to the different microphones, and the object data.
