New video analysis comes from Czech Republic and measures the speeding!
In this demonstration survey, we tracked 204 vehicles which traveled 114 kilometers in total, averaging 555 m per vehicle. The average speed was 34,5 kph.
The video is displaying the sections with maximal speed allowed and highlights vehicles that have exceeded this speed. In the DataFromSky Viewer, you can create such a measured area simply using a polygon, where you can define the conditions under which the alert should appear (e.g. to which categories of vehicles does the rule apply, speed range etc.).

The following video is a part of a project supported by EU programme Horizon 2020 called “Study of the individual and collective behavior of people in large-scale events”. The objective is to extract the trajectories of all individuals and to create a pedestrian behavior model for the crowded environment based on the real data from DataFromSky analysis.
This project opens new channels and brings other new possibilities in using DataFromSky in UAV monitoring:
– utilization in perimeter security – active and real-time aerial surveillance in mass events (sport events, concerts, parades, demonstrations etc.)
– detection of non-standard behavior, dangerous situations, suspicious gathering (in demonstrations and crowds)
– studies of pedestrians movement behavior and its patterns

On January 10-11, Transportforum – the Nordic region’s largest annual conference within the transport sector, will be held in Linköping, Sweden. At the conference, researchers and stakeholders meet for knowledge sharing and benchmarking.
COWI, our partner in the Nordic countries, will be present with a stand (number 28) and give several lectures. On Wednesday January 10 at 15:30-17:00 Mathias Sdun, Chief Specialist at COWI, will talk about risks associated with bus stops based on analyses conducted using DataFromSky (read our recent article). Mathias will also explain how DataFromSky analysis can give us detailed information about road user’s behavior before some accidents really happen and thus give us the possibility to act preventively.

Welcome to the new year 2018!
We will start this year with a slight look into the recent past. Lately, we have announced our great success in a start-up contest called “Connect Visions to Solutions”, organized by German-Czech Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which was held in Prague in late November. John F. Kennedy’s Square in city of Aalborg in Denmark is with the railway station and bus terminal an important traffic hub that connects Aalborg to the surrounding towns and most of the bigger cities in country. With Aalborg Municipality’s desire and strategy to change the habits and move citizens from cars to bicycle and public transport, large space problems have arisen in connection with parking spaces for bicycles. The bike rails are crowded and illegally parked bikes fill up the street scene and create dangerous pedestrian situations.
In order to find the optimal location of bicycle parking facilities, the movement patterns of each traffic participant, especially pedestrians and bicycles, were analyzed using DataFromSky advanced software – see the pictures attached below, representing the trajectories of bicycles (blue) and pedestrians (green). Based on these patterns, detailed data, statistics and trajectories information, COWI has performed a study examining where it will be possible to implement more parking places for bicycles in and around the square, resulting with a proposal for how the space can be furnished – offering more space for bicycle parking and rest areas for pedestrians.
DataFromSky analysis has also resulted in illustrations of average speed of pedestrians in this square. The data were used to design areas where pedestrians typically stop and where there may be a need for seating (e.g. near the bus station), moreover, these information and data are extremely valuable for a safety study in a given zone, which can be adopted by the municipality to make some changes in order to increase the safety of pedestrians and bicycles in analyzed area.

When carrying out a complex traffic study, it may be difficult to map the entire traffic situation, especially with traditional methods. Using a solution in form of traffic research from air with a drone and DataFromSky software, all movements are recorded down and analyzed to the smallest detail for unlimited data. In addition to junctions and road sections, the system is also suitable for parking areas, events, station environments or terminals.

Simple insight into all data
The knowledge in form of a aerial video with exact traffic parameters, speed measurements and identification of inappropriate or dangerous behavior is a very powerful communication tool for organizations, citizens and politicians alike. Moreover, it is fairly easy to evaluate, or use the results immediately in programs for traffic simulation models such as VISSIM.
Our partner in the BENELUX region – Roelofs – has recently carried out such complex traffic analysis accross the Netherlands using the drones to analyse the crossroads – especially roundabouts and signalized intersections.
Speed-based trajectories in the analyzed area
The results obtained thanks to DataFromSky were further used to create a simulation model in VISSIM, using the real data about: vehicle categories, speed and acceleration in crossroad, intensities on each lane, vehicle gap time and origin destination statistics. DataFromSky – the world’s most advanced traffic analysis
It will also be demonstrated how advanced technologies such as computer vision, neural networking and deep learning can be used and implemented in the world’s most advanced software for comprehensive traffic analyzes and also how to utilize this solution to detect the occupancy of a parking lot in real time using an ordinary IP cameras and the AI behind.
One of the topics presented on this event will be the “Accident Portal” – new web-based analysis tool developed by COWI that gives the Danish municipalities completely new opportunities for quickly, efficiently and through a user-friendly interface to work with traffic accidents data. The team of DataFromSky is currently working on a project evaluating the safety of a traffic node to know the potentionally risky situation and detect near accidents and accidents. This feature could be possibly utilized in the Accident Portal mentioned above.
Unidentified object in the skies of Trento, Italy – Aliens? Most of the citizens and local journals could think that, read some of the local newspapers. Do not worry, there is no danger of alliens attack so far, DataFromSky has a simple and reasonable explanation!
Using a special balloon for traffic data collecting, new DataFromSky traffic analysis near the city of Trento in northern Italy was undertaken within last weeks. Specially designed ballon was used for a 3hour long study of traffic flow in the multilevel roundabout as shown in the attached image. This helium-filled balloon has many advantages for the persistent traffic monitoring, in comparison to commonly used drones and UAV, as the operating time of the balloon can reach up to 5 hours!
