Did you know that as a result of traffic accidents, 1 250 000 people die each year? If you want to put it differently, 3 500 every day… There is also the fact that these numbers may keep rising:

That’s why there are numerous initiatives and organizations working on increasing road safety – eg. International Road Assessment Programme, UN Decade of Action for Road Safety, Inter-American Development Bank Road Safety Strategy, World Bank Global Road Safety Facility, Global Road Safety Partnership of Red Cross and Red Crescent, FIA Foundation – just to name a few. The list goes on and on.
Among other benefits, DataFromSky can help assess safety of intersections. To communicate this easily to the general public as well as potential customers, we created an infographic.Read more
DronEzine, an Italian electronic drone magazine, published an article dedicated to Smart Mobility World 2015. This year, a section will be dedicated to drone use in the field of traffic, intelligent transport systems and mobility. The article mentioned DataFromSky: “All over the world, the businesses that use UAV for this kind of mission have proliferated, such as DataFromSky, to mention just one name“.
We are happy to be mentioned, since we are planning to participate again this year, after our participation last year in Turin. The 2015 edition will start on 28th October at the Italian F1 circuit in Monza, conveniently located in time and space near the end of Expo 2015. Don’t hesitate and come!Read more
Alan Sackrin, Florida based Civil Trial Lawyer, published an article about the importance of road design and its influence on road crash statistics.
Current conditions of roadways and their design – these two factors play a major role in number of car accidents.
There are times when people are seriously injured or even killed in auto accidents on a traffic path where the design itself causes danger mentions Alan Sackrin.

Every now and then, an unique and interesting use case for DataFromSky comes up. The Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering at National Technical University of Athens is planning to use DataFromSky for traffic monitoring – to study interactions between powered two-wheelers (PTW) and other vehicles. They have already published a number of papers, dealing with powered two-wheelers’ overtaking in context of game theory or modelling based on multivariate statistics .
The smaller size of PTWs makes it possible to keep moving and overtaking even in conditions where cars are immobilized. In some countries, PTWs are either a dominant form of traffic, or take up a large share. Given these facts, there is a lot of opportunities to build a better understanding of their interactions – and hopefully also safety in these situations.
