Roelofs, partner of DataFromSky for BENELUX region, is participating on the National Traffic Science Congress, held on 31st October and 1st November 2018 in Conference Center in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
During the congress on November 1st, Mr. Tim Adema, the head of the Traffic & Transport cluster in Roelofs, will give a lecture on the Traffic Research and will discuss the use of drones and advanced software analytics in traffic surveys. The topic to the discussion is also what are the main advantages of drones in traffic surveys over the traditional methods.

We are proud to announce that a new version of the DataFromSky Viewer is now available and brings lots of new amazing features for the advanced Safety Analysis. Do you want to evaluate how many risky situations and dangerous driving events occurred on the road? Use our DataFromSky intelligence! We can count the milliseconds to the near accident and predict the accident before it happened!
Traffic safety is a very important subject in the traffic industry and therefore our focus in this version was mainly on the new Safety Analysis feature that detects traffic conflicts like Time to Collision, Post-Encroachment Time or Heavy Braking in the scene. The DataFromSky Viewer now becomes a first tool that allows the user to detect and interactively analyse various traffic conflict situations between different traffic objects. Besides the standard ways of detecting the preemtive traffic conflicts, we used an innovative approach to simulate traffic object movement. Due to the huge interest in the traffic Safety Analysis, you can look forward to new features regarding this topic in the near future.

The development of DataFromSky Safety Analysis features is done in collaboration with FAST VUT Brno and is supported by Technological Agency of Czech Republic (TAČR, project TH02010882).

Those of you who are following us regularly know that we are constantly working on improving and creating new possibilities of use for our DataFromSky Aerial Artificial Intelligence platform. DataFromSky can help to save lives not only in the transportation area, but also as a very powerful SAR (Search and Rescue) system!
We are currently developing a unique body recognition application – a software that recognizes human bodies from aerial pictures to find missing people much easier and faster. DataFromSky AAI Rescue system reduces the time required to rescue lost people or help with finding victims of natural disasters or some unexpected situations. Together with a greek UAV partner, we are working on the concept that can save lives in cases of natural disasters such as happened recently in the Greek resort of Mati.
Given the concerns inherent in large regions due to limited rescue distribution, UAV-based frameworks are a promising platform for providing aerial imaging. The primary role of such intelligent drone is to assist in search & rescue, structure and commercial building fires, wildland fires, and help document natural disasters while helping to find the victims faster! With a thermal imaging camera, there is a high chance to detect fires already at its beginnings and possibly to prevent a disaster.
An article about DataFromSky appeared in an e-magazine Xataka. This online newsletter focuses on smart solutions in various areas, including smart businesses, smart cities and municipalities, or smart government. The article describes our path to success, how the project DataFromSky originated, what are our achievements and future goals.
The article also describes how the data is collected and what are some special conditions and requirement for the input video for DataFromSky analysis and mentions some legal restrictions for drones and other small UAVs that vary from country to country. Further on, the process of data and trajectory extraction using the DNN and machine learning is simply explained.
Our CEO also explains the future plans and vision of DataFromSky: “We want to apply everything we have learned with our algorithms for detecting vehicles and people in services such as traffic surveillance. And here we are not talking about a post-processed analysis, but monitoring and analyzing the data in real time directly on site. This could be done by drones or by fixed cameras, and would not be limited to detecting excesses of speed. The idea is to be able to determine aggressive driving, a sufficient safety distance between cars, calculate an excess of emissions or something as simple as counting the number of cars that pass through a point in a certain period of time, matched with a license plate. It would be a big evolution of the dreaded traffic cameras that are limited to detecting speeding nowadays.”

DataFromSky team is constantly working on developing and upgrading our software tool for advanced data visualization and interpretation DataFromSky Viewer. We have recently released a new enhanced version of this tool, including many improvements, modifications and new features! The new version of the Viewer is much more user-friendly, we have simplified the structure of the Menu and the main toolbar and make the UI easier to work with.
What are the most important news and features added?
– possibility to export the data in WGS84 coordinates
– measurement of headways both in seconds and in meters (exporting these data to CSV is a matter of course)
– possibility to export the data for all configured gates into one single file,
– possibility to export a video with anonymization regions
– video position is shown also in milliseconds from the start of the video
– added information about the number of currently occurring trajectories in the frame
– video rotation
We have also created a completely new DataFromSky Demo package for you! You can download a free trial version of DataFromSky Viewer with the full functionality directly on our website (go on our homepage and click on “Try and See” at the bottom)! The demo package contains one short sample video of a roundabout and presents what is DataFromSky capable of in its full version:
